Skanska Talonrakennus Oy, the contractor responsible for construction of the used fuel encapsulation plant at Olkiluoto, handed over the building to Finnish waste management company Posiva at the end of May for installation of the nuclear systems.

CORRECTED The city of Vantaa has said its municipal energy company must withdraw from the project to build the Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant in Finland, saying the situation in Ukraine makes it unlikely a licence would be granted.

Finnish utility Fortum Power and Heat Oy has submitted an application to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment to operate both units 1 and 2 of its Loviisa nuclear power plant until the end of 2050. The current operating licences expire at the end of 2027 and 2030, respectively.

Unit 3 of Finland's Olkiluoto nuclear power plant was connected to the national grid on 12 March and has started supplying electricity, operator Teollisuuden Voima Oyj announced. The 1600 MWe EPR is scheduled to enter regular electricity production in July.

Commissioning tests are progressing well at Olkiluoto 3, with grid connection now expected to take place on 15 March, Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has said.
